Darleen McInnis Obituary

McInnis, Darleen Joan, 77, of Hubley, NS, passed away peacefully at Shoreham Village

Continuing Care Centre in Chester, NS on Sunday, March 17, 2024. Darleen was born on

September 26, 1946, to Perley W. and Sarah E. (Pearl) Cross of Big Tancook Island, NS.

Darleen spent the first 18 years of her life on Big Tancook Island, leaving to pursue a career in

the secretarial field. She worked for Zellers, The Chronicle Herald, Sears, and ADP. Through the

years, Darleen enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing cards, camping, and

sewing. Darleen was a member of the one-parent association where she met the love of her life

and husband of 43 years, William E. McInnis. Together, they were faithful members of the

Timberlea Baptist Church and spent many years bowling competitively with the one-parent

association. They loved to travel. Together they drove across Canada twice, took a bus tour to

Nashville, and a cruise to St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Darleen loved going home to Big

Tancook Island where she owned a cottage for many years. Darleen loved animals, especially

dogs, squirrels, and birds. She is predeceased by her parents, and her loving pets; Mitzy, Hibby,

Scampy, Cuddles, and Suzie. She is survived by her husband, Bill. Her children; Chrystal (Scott)

Carroll of Preeceville, SK, and Robyn (Nalaine) Langille of Dartmouth, NS. Her step-children;

Ann (Eddy) Westhaver of Big Tancook Island, NS, and Adam (Michelle) McInnis of Italy Cross,

NS. Her grandchildren; Sarah, Noah, Josiah, Blake, Parker, Rourke, Kayla, Erica, Matthew,

Jordan, Isaac, William, Kyle, Connor, and Carah. Darleen is also survived by her dear friend of

many years, Marion Gannon, and many other close friends and relatives. We want to thank

Shoreham Village for their excellent care of Darleen over the past 6 years as she progressed

through Huntington’s disease. There will be a celebration of life held on Saturday, April 13 from

2-4pm at Timberlea Baptist Church (31 Greenwood Ave, Timberlea, NS). In lieu of flowers,

donations can be made to Big Tancook Island Recreational Centre Association, Big Tancook

Island Emergency Response Association, Huntington Society of Canada, or Soul’s Harbour

Rescue Mission.
