Janice 'Jan' Boates Obituary

Boates, Janice Laura “Jan” 62. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jan Boates of Kingston, NS, in hospital on March 26th, 2024.
Born on July 15th, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Carter) Boates of Melvern Square and Richard “Dick” Boates formally of Wilmot, NS.
Janice was a long time cook in CFB Greenwood, as well as Camp Aldershot, Kentville. Her skills as a cook took her across the country to Alberta and later British Columbia. Where she made many wonderful friendships and took in our beautiful country at every opportunity. She later returned home to Nova Scotia and worked at the Top Hat Lounge finishing out her career as a cook, and spending time with her family and friends.
Janice enjoyed fishing by the creek, sharing stories and laughs with those she loved, KFC dates by the river with her granddaughter, caring for and helping animals in need; especially having a soft spot for stray kitties. Which eventually led to the adoption of her beloved “Bubby”. Janice was one of the kindest, most loving and caring human beings. Always concerned for others and their well being. Forever “Mother Henning”.
Janice is survived by her daughter Andrea (Jon) of Kingston, granddaughter Abby of Kingston, brother Glen (Shelley) North Kingston, niece Teri and nephew Tommy both of Halifax, Father Richard (Linda) New Brunswick, half sister Lisa of New Brunswick and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives. Special friends Sam & Todd Sloan, Bear River and lifelong friend Kat Waldon, Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by mother Lillian Boates and half sister Lindsey Boates.
Special thanks to Janet Welton, Sarah Scott, the palliative care team, the ER and nursing staff at VRH.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no service. A celebration of life for close friends and family will take place at a later date.
