Palmer, Evelyn Mae (Hirtle) “Nana” – 78 of Nicholsville (Kings Co.) passed away on January 9, 2020 at the Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Western Kings Memorial Hospital in Berwick, she is the daughter of the late Everette and Mary (Carter) Hirtle.
Evelyn met Carl at George Illsley’s Grocery Store in Aylesford around 1963. Evelyn and Carl were actively involved in the Canadian Farmers with Disabilities Registry. Evelyn ran a nursery school for a number of years from her home making use of her certificate in early childhood studies. She worked as a Personal Care Worker at Grandview Manor before switching career paths in the mid nineteen-nineties, finishing her working career with Berwick recreation department. As a cancer survivor, she was an avid supporter of the Relay for Life. A trait inherited from her father, Evelyn was very community oriented and very focused on family, having a fondness for children, reading, spending time in her garden and playing the organ at Harmony Baptist and in recent times, Black Rock Baptist Church.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters; Nancy Ebeling of Sylvan Lake, AB., Melody (Bradley) Morse of Berwick. Sons; Colin (Kim) Palmer of Saskatoon, SK., Tim Palmer of Nicholsville. Sister Marianne Brydon (Bruce) of Black Rock. Sister-in-laws; Phyllis Hirtle of Pinehurst and Jean Hirtle of Cambridge. Brothers; Francis (Sandra) Hirtle of Burlington and Brian (Glenda) Hirtle of Viewmount. As well as fifteen Grandchildren; Ryan (Kumlaiz), Jessica (Skye), Lauren, Emily, Carter, David (Alexandra), Aaron (Amy), Grace, Margaret, Kyle (Alyson), Neville (Norah), Garreth (Hayley), Allana (Sherman), Hanley, Liam, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brothers; Robert, Everette Jr. and Donald. Her beloved daughter Faylene and grandson, Damon.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm at Black Rock Baptist Church, 1248 Russia Rd. Black Rock NS, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00pm with reception to follow at the Burlington Community Hall.
Rev. Marie McCallum officiating. Private family burial will follow at the Aylesford Union Cemetery.
