Alexander Talma Obituary

It is with great sadness that we are saying goodbye to Alexander Talma who passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023 at the Valley Hospice in Kentville.  Al was born in  Holwerd in the Netherlands on April 27, 1940 which was soon to be invaded and occupied by the Germans.

His family, which included six children at that time, immigrated in 1948 to Hartland, NB and later four other siblings were born in Canada.

Al was the oldest of the ten children and helped his father on the farm and worked other jobs to support their family.  At age seventeen Al joined the Air Force.  He had a great career as a radar tech and when he was stationed in Montreal met Iva McRae. They married in 1960 and were together until she passed away in 2008. Al and Iva had two children, Elaine (Ron) and Chris (Carol).

Al was stationed in many different bases, Trenton, Cold Lake, Summerside and lastly Ottawa.  He had a second career working for Transport Canada then DND in Ottawa after retiring from the Air Force. When he completely retired they moved to Dartmouth NS.

Al was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Martha, first wife Iva, brother Web and brother in law Ron Baron.

Al was lucky to marry again in 2011 to Evelyn Parsons.

Al leaves a big legacy of so many who loved him: siblings Mike (Sonya), Grace (Monty), John (Irene), Jim (Sandy), Olen (Linda), Ray (Geri), Web (Wendy), Elsie (Bruce) and Mary (Ron). Loved by his grandchildren from Elaine, Allison (Jack) who have Everett, Logan and Kirsten. Chris’ children Mathew and Amanda (James) who have Aaron and Violet.  Al’s second marriage expanded his family with Evelyn’s five daughters and their spouses, children and great grandchildren. Special recognition to her family living now in Nova Scotia including Cindy (Graham), Serena (Dominic) and Tammy (Todd) who all welcomed Al very warmly to their family.  Also to mention some of their children and grandchildren who lived close to Al and Evelyn such as Candance (Richard) with Carlie and Wyatt, Molly, Leighton, Kenzie with Avionna. As well two other daughters and their families, Carla in Ontario and Dena in Newfoundland.

Al and Evelyn enjoyed many winters in Florida and had a great social life there. They spent their summers at the Evangeline Campground.

Special thanks to all who looked after Al, the amazing staff at the Valley Hospice, Dr. Carly McLellan and the nephrology department in Yarmouth.

Al will be always remembered for being kind, generous and very easy going.  We will miss this special man, loving father, husband, brother, step-father, father in law, Poppa and friend.

Service to be held at the Aylesford United Church on April 17, 2023 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Valley Hospice Foundation would be appreciated.
