Bruce Shaw Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Bruce Wayne Shaw (69).

Bruce passed away peacefully the morning of July 22, 2022 at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, NS.

Bruce is survived by the love of his life, Brenda Lynn Shaw (Fraser) and their beloved cat, Meeka, of New Minas, NS; two sons: Jason Cooke (Cher) of Kelowna, BC; and Matthew Cooke (Julia) of New Minas, NS; daughter, Crystal Shaw (Matthew) of Dartmouth, NS; six grandchildren: Haydden, Jewel, Tori, Kylie, Tyler and Kenzie. Also surviving are his six siblings (and their families) which include brothers, Paul and Brian, and sisters Ruth, Sylvia, Holly, and Darlene.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Leslie Shaw and Marjorie Shaw (Andrews), his brothers; Steve and Johnny, and his sister, Linda.

Bruce grew up in Dartmouth, NS, and lived in the Dartmouth area with his loving wife, Brenda, until they relocated to New Minas upon the birth of their youngest grandchild.

In his younger days, Bruce loved to camp, listen to rock music, play the guitar, and engaged in boating. He was a lifelong devoted Toronto Maple Leafs hockey fan.

After retiring as a supervisor at Datarite in Burnside, NS, and moving to New Minas, he enjoyed spending time relaxing with family and watching his favorite hockey team play (even if the Leafs didn't go quite as far as he would have liked).

Bruce, who adored his grandchildren and was affectionately known as "Grampy", will be remembered for how much he loved his wife - whom he spent 38 years with; his stubbornness; his incessant teasing; and for the twinkle in his eye when someone picked up the "bait" in his never-ending quest to torment those closest to him.

While no funeral service is currently scheduled, cremation arrangements have been made, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to help cover funeral costs, services, and to assist his wife with living expenses are appreciated. Please reach out to someone in the family if you would like to make a contribution.
