It is with great sadness that
we announce the death of our beloved mother Clare Mary (Colbert) Morrison on
Wednesday, January 25 at the Windsor Elms Village in Falmouth, NS.
Clare was born May 23, 1941
to Aloysius and Mary (Lush) Colbert in Glace Bay, NS. She was a graduate of
St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1963 and went on to Dalhousie University to
further her studies for a degree in Public Health. She was employed by the Province
of Nova Scotia as a Public Health Nurse for 33 years. During those years, she was a long time
member of the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union and served on their Executive
Board.
Although it had become a
lovely silver, she was a redhead to the core and always a force to be reckoned
with. Loved and admired by all who knew
her for her unwavering strength, independence, ability to stand up for what she
believed in and always negotiated the best price for everything. There wasn’t a
shower, family party or event that Clare wouldn’t miss pitching in to help. Caring for those around her gave her the
greatest joy.
In retirement she enjoyed shopping,
reading, sewing, quilting and home DIY, especially furniture restoration. She loved playing cards with family and her
dear friend Sandra Flemming, often into the wee hours of the morning.
Clare married her brother Tom’s
best friend Edward in 1964. They built a
bungalow in Grand Mira that was always a gathering place for family and friends. Clare raised two beautiful children; son Mark,
Burnaby, BC and daughter Jennifer (Curtis) Gibbons, Fall River, NS. When grandchildren Carter and Liam arrived
she moved to Fall River to be a full time live-in Nanny, the job she truly
adored. When her health declined she
moved into Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, NS.
She is survived by her
sisters Mary (Joseph) Matheson, Glace Bay, Cecelia Kuhn, Windsor, CT, USA,
brothers Thomas Colbert, Grand Mira and Percy Colbert, Catalone Gut as well as
cousins, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand
nieces and nephews. Clare was
pre-deceased by her husband Eddie, infant son Edward, her parents, siblings
Anne Ripley, Joan in infancy and Patrick (Butch), in-laws Sharon Colbert, Joann
Colbert, Donald Ripley, Arthur Kuhn, Ewen Morrison, Evelyn Fewer, Emily
Morrison, Roy Morrison, Melvin (Gladys) Morrison, Margaret (George) Tiller and
Mae (Dick) MacLean.
We
would like to extend a special thank you to Lisa Wall for all that you have
been for her, Debbie Companion for being her friend and road warrior. To the staff of Windsor Elms Village, who
were truly her extended family, words cannot express our gratitude for the love
and care that you provided her. Cremation
has taken place. A family burial will

beloved Eddie. In lieu of flowers
