Donald William Nicoll - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of "Bill" at the age of 81. Bill passed away peacefully at the QE11 on Monday, January 17th, with his wife, Sheila, at his side and his family as close as they could be. Bill worked many years with Lands and Forest until joining his father in the salvage/used cars business. After his father's retirement he partnered with his brother until which time he took over full ownership.
Bill was a long standing member of the Uniacke & District Volunteer Fire Department and served on the board for the Friends of Dykeland Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf in his earlier years. He built and stocked his very own fishing pond which his family, friends and residents of Dykeland Lodge enjoyed for many years. Bill was instrumental in starting the women's softball in Mt. Uniacke and spent many years as a coach. In later years he enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and watching their baseball and hockey games. He could even be found on the football field. He never quite figured out the game but knew his grandsons jersey numbers and watched their every move.
Bill loved his family. You never knew what little adventure he and Sheila would find themselves on. They enjoyed their trips to the States. Many a days he could be found patiently waiting on the bench outside whatever store Sheila was in at the time. He would tell everyone who would listen that his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchild were his pride and joy. Second to that was his yard. He could be seen daily out mowing his grass because heaven forbid it had the nerve to grow even half an inch. He had a smile for everyone and a hug to melt your problems away.
Bill leaves behind his wife Sheila (Wolfe); his daughters, Kathy (Donnie) Garland and Kim (Gerry) White; Sons, Randy (Sherri); Bruce and Jamie (Kim); grandchildren Brandon (Sarah), Bradley (Jessy), Samantha, Justin, Nicole (Jamie), Logan and Cohan; great-grandchild William; sister Edythe (Wayne) Cooke; brothers Roger and Art; sister-in-laws Gertie, Libby, Marnie and Shirley; many nieces, nephews and people who just called him Dad.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Gerald & Dorothy (MacDonnell); brothers Gerald, Francis, Douglas, George and Jimmy; sister Ann (Smallshaw); brother-in-law Ken Smallshaw; friend Valerie; infant son and infant granddaughter, Jessie.
Bill has left a huge hole in so many hearts. He will be sorely missed, never to be forgotten. Rest in peace Pa, you are finally without pain.
As per Bill's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has been entrusted to East Coast Memorial. Grave side service to take place at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the QE11 doctors and nurses on 8.3 and 3IMCU, as well as the Uniacke & District Volunteer Fire Department for their endless support and care.
