Krystian Szczesny

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Krystian, beloved husband, father and grandfather who died suddenly on April 16, 2023 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was 70 years old.

He shared the last 30 years with his wife and best friend Eva, with whom he shared many passions: skiing, golfing, biking, camping, and traveling. He loved his fast cars, was an enthusiast of shooting sports, great cook, avid reader with great knowledge of European military history. He was a loving father and an incredibly proud grandfather to his beautiful granddaughters.

Krystian was born in Wroclaw, Poland where he received his medical diploma in 1981. He completed his residency through Dalhousie University in 1992 and began practicing later that year. He had a successful career as a gastroenterologist in Amherst at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Over his career he held the positions of Chief of Staff, Director of ICU and Chief of Internal Medicine. He made many good friends during his career.

He was preceded by his father Zbigniew. He is survived by his wife Eva, his mother Hanna Szczesny, daughter Agnieszka (Alex, Liliana and Hanna), son Pavel (Andrea, Elena and Isabel), their mother Gosia (Curtis), stepson Martin (Rebecca, Maeve), brother Piotr (Bozena), half-brother Zbigniew (Ewa), and extended family here and in Poland.

Krystian will be fondly remembered for his generous spirit, his kind heart and his unwavering commitment to his family. He was a man of great integrity and strength and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, coworkers and by all who knew and loved him.

Following Krystian's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place on Sunday, May 28, 2023 from 1pm-3pm at the Amherst Golf Club, 487 John Black Road, Amherst.
