George Greenwood Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family Announced the passing of George William Greenwood Sr. on April 17th 2024 in Windsor Nova Scotia at the age of 86 born in Halifax. George was a source of strength and love for his family.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Helen (Scott) Greenwood of Belmont and his loving children, Rhonda, Theresa and George Greenwood of Belmont. He is also survived by his dear sister, Marjorie Greenwood and his brothers Norman (Edna) Greenwood, Gordon Greenwood and David (Jeannie) Greenwood. He was further survived by his sister. In-law, Jean (late Leo) Greenwood and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents William Everett and Beatrice Emmeline (Millard) Greenwood, as well as his siblings, Leo Greenwood,  Clarence (Beverly) Greenwood, Harold Greenwood, Bertha (Bill) Webster. Marie (Ronald) Little, Edith (Michael) Tompkins and his nephews; Gary Norton, Kenny Norton, Darren Gayton and Cheryl Gayton. 
He was also predeceased by his niece Lorna Webster and his brother, not of blood, but just as important. James MacDonald Halifax.
George's life was marked by his dedication and kindness. He worked as a postal clerk at the Halifax Post Office for over 25 years where he formed enduring friendships with colleagues such as Clem, Theo and Jimmy. His commitment to his work was unwavering as he braved even the most challenging weather to fulfill his duties. 
George had a passion for old westerns. Particularly those featuring John Wayne, Hopalong Cassidy, Jean Autry and Roy Rogers. He was also an avid history enthusiast with a deep knowledge of subjects ranging from archeology to world wars, his love for sports especially baseball (cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays) and hockey was evident to all those who knew him.
Despite facing health challenges, George maintained a positive outlook and deep appreciation for life. His love of food was evident and he approached each meal with gratitude. Even amidst the limitation imposed by his kidney disease, he also, said if the food was there, it was meant to be eaten. He cherished his pets and found joy in their companionship.
In honor of George's memory, a funeral will be held at a later date for family only. Those who wish to pay tribute to George's life may consider making a donation to the charity of their choice for the kidney foundation. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors on ward 200. As well as Dr. Tennecore for the compassionate care provided to George during his time in hospital.
George William Greenwood will be deeply missed. By all who had the privilege of knowing him, his legacy of love, resilience and kindness will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace knowing that he was cherished and loved beyond measure.
