Georgina Marie Fox (nee Dixon) passed away on November 23, 2021 at the age of 80 after impressing her family and friends with her daily laughter and determination to power through extreme challenges brought on by ALS. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Kent, their daughters, Kim Reinhardt (Frank), Dana Fox (René Murphy), and son Wayne Fox, and five grandsons: Wyatt, Dylan, Ryan, Thomas and Adam. Georgina is survived by her siblings Harvey (Nancy), Dennis (Janis), Melody (Mike), and Brian (Amy). She was predeceased by her sister Brenda. She also had numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of her family, all of whom she loved.
Georgina was born near Windham Centre, Ontario. She and Kent raised their family in Barrie, and spent countless weekends and summer holidays at their cottage in Bala, Ont. She worked hard managing accounting books and office work, supporting her children in swimming programs, day camps, Guides, and sports, and filling the family freezer and pantry every year with prepared garden vegetables, pickles, jams and more.
In 2003, Georgina and Kent made a big decision to leave Ontario and all their roots to embark on a new life in Nova Scotia. After a few years in Berwick, they moved to Ketch Harbour and became neighbours with their oldest daughter Kim and her family. Georgina became a very active community volunteer. She prepared hot lunches for children at the elementary school, she supported community events, baked for community fundraisers and programs and was a dedicated community bottle drive volunteer. She was very proud of her family, especially her grandsons, and was so happy when everyone could get together. Our memories of Georgina, aka Georgie, Nana, and Mom will live on in our hearts forever.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to mom over the course of her illness. Though she lost her ability to speak, she never lost her ability to express joy. Seeing and hearing from family and friends brought her great happiness.
We are thankful that mom’s wish to die at home, with family by her side, could be fulfilled. This was possible, in large part, because of the support provided by the ALS Society of NS, which offered compassion, kindness and all the equipment needed to make mom’s end of life experience, the best possible. If you would like to make a donation in honour of mom, please consider the ALS Society of NB and NS via their
website www.alsnbns.ca.
Cremation has taken place. No service is planned at this time.
