Harold Briand Obituary

Harold William Briand, born on July 7, 1957, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 66, passed away peacefully at his home on February 7, 2024. He was the beloved son of George (Bucky) and Mary Briand. Harold is survived by his loving spouse, Faye Briand, his devoted son, Jamie Blandford (Brandi Sawka), granddaughters Savannah and Madison, grandson Diego, great granddaughter Nova, and his dear and cherished sisters Margaret and Nita (Richard Hull). Harold is predeceased by his brothers George and Derreck and sisters Kathleen, Darlene, Mary and Francis.

Harold was a man of many talents and passions. He spent endless hours crafting his creations with wood, leaving a piece of himself and touching many lives along his travels. If you needed anything done, he would not hesitate to throw his skills where they were needed. Whether it be a swing for Faye in the yard or chairs for friends and neighbours, planes, lighthouses, and scale structures, he built it all with precision and care. Harold was a generous man who would give anything he had to someone in need; from his time to his crafts, if it would put a smile on someone's face or lift someone’s spirits, he would be proud to do whatever was needed.

For 28 years Harold dedicated himself to working with HRM at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he took great pride in his daily work until he retired in 2009. During his career he developed a special life long friendship with his co-workers. Bob, Myles, Dave, and Smitty. His employment at the park was a perfect fit for him and he was always available to the public, eager to lend a helping hand or share a kind word. Working there allowed him to meet people from all walks of life and he loved hearing the stories of others’ travels, often sharing his own adventures and experiences. Harold's warm and welcoming nature made him unforgettable, and he had a knack for putting a smile on anyone's face who needed it.

In his leisure time, Harold enjoyed getting away for weekend camping trips, taking the truck for a short drive only to go on foot for miles. He found solace in nature, seeking out quiet spots away from everything to camp and fish with his brother or son. These moments allowed him to connect with his loved ones and the natural world, bringing him peace and joy.

Harold will be remembered for his kindness, his craftsmanship, his unwavering love for his family, and let’s not forget his gift for the gab. Many have had the pleasure of his two-hour (10-minute) stories. They will be missed. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy will endure through the memories and stories shared by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Harold will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His passing leaves a void in the lives of those he touched, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. As per his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no service. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.

The family would also like to take this opportunity to offer our sincerest gratitude to the Palliative Care Program for their help and support during this difficult time. Although many amazing people have come into our lives to make sure Harold's battle ended as peacefully as possible, one stands out as Dad's “guardian angel” as he said, Lynn Gillis, who in our opinion, has gone well above and beyond with her compassion and care. We couldn't have gotten through without you, thank you!
