Joan White Obituary

In memory of Joan, mother, grandmother, and loving wife.

Joan Beatrice White (nee Carter) 83, our dear mom passed away with her family by her side Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Blomindon Court in Greenwich, N.S.

Born in Amherst on April 13,1939 she was the daughter of the late Florence (nee Peck) and Clayton Carter.  Growing up between Truro and Southampton, she graduated from Parrsboro High School and went on to graduated from St. Charles Commercial School in Amherst.  While working at Trans Canada Credit in Truro she met her future husband of 59 years, Cecil.  They lived in Truro where their daughter Janet was born but soon transferred to Kentville and settled on Waldo Street where they welcomed the birth of son, Peter.  They happily raised their family there for 54 years. They recently enjoyed their transition to New Minas.

Mom had a passion for business, spending 26 years at Sears Canada and then 12 years with the Municipality of Kings.  She assisted many organizations with her bookkeeping skills.  Her faith was an important part of her life, many United Church Women meetings were held at our home and she spent numerous hours on various church committees.  She and Cecil were members of the United Commercial Travellers club and participated in many fundraising activities.  She loved her Rummoli nights with friends, bowling, camping, and celebrating holidays.

Mom loved every minute of her many years at the cottage in Medford, especially when joined by her grandchildren.  She enjoyed walking at the dome, shopping, bus trips, flying to Ontario to visit grandchildren and cheering on her N.S. grandsons’ hockey games kept her busy later in life.

Joan will be cherished and remembered by her loving husband Cecil, daughter Janet (Ian) Ripley Amherst, son Peter (Nancy) Burlington, ON. Adored grandchildren Greg, Cassidy, Carter, Victoria and Kaitlyn. Sister Helen Gallagher, Lr. Economy. Brother Sherman (Cathy) Truro and sister-in-law Sharon, Regina, SK.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother Arthur Carter and brother-in-laws Elmer White and Winston Gallagher.

A very special thank you to the entire team at Blomindon Court in Greenwich for their amazing support and care for Joanie during her stay.

Cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 28 th at 2:00 pm at the Emmanuel United Church, 30 Main Street, Kingsport, Nova Scotia with a reception to follow.
