JOAN WOODLAND (née Whitford)
With utmost sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Joan Woodland, 90, at the Windsor Elms on November 11, 2023. Born at home in Lower Sackville, Joan was the third of eleven children.
As the matriarch of five generations, she taught us by her example - unconditional love, hard work, honesty, generosity, loyalty, how to clean, and ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’. Joan was strong and fierce - she always walked with purpose - the floor shook.
During the last several years, she lived with grace, modesty, and resiliency. Mom was always in there. We saw her softer side, she was still funny and could make us laugh, and often she was quite spicy. We are all grateful that we finally could take care of our Mother.
Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy, her parents, Howard and Leola Whitford, our beloved father, Ralph Woodland, sisters, Phyllis Dill, Anita (Snookie) Kaulback, and brother, Howie Whitford. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Woodland (Ed), son, Larry Woodland (Shoneth) and daughter, Connie Davison (Michael), grandchildren, Kelly (Blair), Brett (Tara) and Adam (Cam), and Erin and Becky (Tim); great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Ashley, and Ivy, Sophie and Rory Joan, and great-great grandson, Aidan. She is also survived by brothers, Jimmy, Douglas, and Marshall Whitford and sisters Tommie (Elva) Sheppard, Margaret Morash, Barbara Hone, and Linda Foster.
We wish to express our sincerest thanks to all the staff at 500 Ward, Hants Community Hospital and at Windsor Elms who cared for our mother during the past 4 ½ years.
