John Brazil Obituary

Big Bad John

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John M. Brazil of Bible Hill, on March 10, 2023 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre. John was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland to Luke and Mary (Corbin) Brazil, the eldest of eight children. Loving husband, proud father and stepfather, grandfather, brother, confidant and patriarch – John filled many roles. He has gone on to meet and greet family and friends that he hasn’t seen for some time. Make no mistake, John will be back from time to time to check in and ensure all is running smoothly.

John was a man of many talents. He dearly enjoyed singing and playing guitar; a good frame of bowling; competitive pool and snooker. He was a decent hockey player in his day, and a lifelong learner. As a younger man, John served his country with the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). Upon completion of service, he moved to Nova Scotia and joined Michelin, where he moved up the ranks to supervisor. Post-Michelin, John moved to Ontario and joined General Motors of Canada’s truck division. Upon retirement, he returned to Nova Scotia.

“Big, Bad John” will be forever missed by his loving wife, Patricia (Murphy), sons John Michael (Heather Whitewood) and Paul, stepdaughters Amy (Brian) Martin, Andrea (Sevak) Beaver-Toghlajian, Erin (Matt) Carroll, and many grandchildren. He also leaves siblings Michael (Barb) Bristol’s Hope, Nfld.; Thomas (Bev) Bible Hill, NS; James (Poppy) Oshawa, Ont.; Mary (Denis) Valley, NS; Elizabeth (Bruce) Gander, Nfld.; Frederick (Lianne) Oshawa, Ont.; Luke (Lorna) Oakville, Ont. Predeceased by his parents, Lorna Russell (mother of his sons) and two infant granddaughters.

The family would like to extend a gracious Thank You to the staff of the Stroke Unit at the CEHHC in Truro. Their kindness and professionalism went far and beyond expectations. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and may God bless you all.

As per John’s wishes, in lieu of a funeral (no “fun” in that, as he’d say), there will be a Celebration of his life on May 20, 2023, from 2pm to 4pm at the Inn on Prince, Truro.
