John Fawcett Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Percy Fawcett, 70 (of Halifax) on March 11th, 2022, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Raymond and Margaret (Tarr) Fawcett. He is survived by his loving family: Wife Donna (Bouchie), sons Jason, Jonathan (Emily) Fawcett, Uncle Jack (Marion) Tarr, Sister Margaret (Bob) MacKay, nephews Scott (Pascale) MacKay, Greg (Kim) MacKay, Laurie Beth (Chris) Cox, sister-in-law Joy (Kenny) Fowler, sister-in-law Betty Bouchie, nieces Victoria (Cory) Detchkoff, Kristen (Andrew) Fowler, Kelsie (Kyle) Fowler, brother-in-law Joseph (Sarah) Bouchie, and nephews Link and Joseph Bouchie.

John was a devoted Christian, and a member of Birch Cove Baptist Church, having previously served as a deacon and trustee at other churches. Whilst completing his B.A. (English) at Dalhousie University he met his wife, Donna, with whom he shared 43 wonderful years together before the Lord called him home. John worked at Canada Post for nearly 40 years.

John loved to be involved in his community. He served as a cub leader for Scouts Canada for many years and was on the Board of Directors for a neighbourhood summer camp (Spryfield Adventure Day Camp). Such activities came naturally to him because he loved children and animals, which were drawn to him. In his spare time, he also loved drawing, painting, and gardening, and was very handy with home repairs.

John enjoyed travelling, particularly to Disney World. He also loved doing jigsaw puzzles and had a real interest in classic cars. He was musically inclined, had a lovely tenor voice, and was frequently asked to sing solos in the church choir.

John loved his family and friends. People who knew John were touched by his kindness, sense of humour, and above all his faith in his Lord and Savior.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at Birch Cove Baptist Church on Saturday, March 19th at 1pm. Given Covid-19 restrictions, no reception will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Birch Cove Baptist Church (for children and youth ministries, as John always believed that if you plant the seed of faith in a child, God will make it grow), or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
