John Milligan Obituary

John H. Milligan, age 90, of Falmouth passed away peacefully January 7, 2020. John was born in Everett, Massachusetts however, grew up in McNeill’s Mills, PEI which held his fondest memories. As a young man he joined the Navy where he served for 5 years, afterward signing up to the Air Force and retiring after 20 years. His career took him traveling to many places including Amsterdam, England, France, Holland, Denmark and Cuba. John’s career also created the opportunity for his family to live in St. John’s, Newfoundland; Churchill, Manitoba; Whitehorse, Yukon and Kearney Lake, Nova Scotia. Once retired, John worked for a time at “Scotia Gold” in Windsor, along with running his own successful small engine business from his and Lena’s home in Lower Burlington, later in Falmouth. They raised their family on an organic farm in Burlington, far ahead of their time providing a healthy lifestyle that his children are forever thankful for. John was especially interested in trees and would experiment with grafting such things as a pear branch onto an apple tree, resulting in harvest. He was also a bit of an inventor in his spare time, an avid reader with a library from floor to ceiling in his basement, and kept a daily diary for decades. John was an active golfer, bowler and curler, activities that he and Selena always enjoyed together. As a young father, John enjoyed scuba diving with his friends in many places including among the icebergs of Hudson’s Bay, in Manitoba, taking photos with his camera encased in the waterproof camera case he had made himself. John is survived by his wife Selina “Lena”, sons Edward (Tami), Michael (Angela), Darrell (Teresa), daughter Linda (Eric), sisters Wanda (Peter) and Claudia (Earl), and brother Terry plus a large extended family of grandchildren: Sarah (Nathan), Samantha (Grant), Brandi (Nick), Levi (Keisha), Jenna (Aaron), Joni (Mitchell), Dylan, Tina (Rory), Brittani (Evan), Amy (Andrew) and great-grandchildren: Maeva, Nicholas, Collin, Nolan, Grayson, Allie, Ryder, Max, Cole, Elsa, Jace, and Alec. John was predeceased by his sister Edith, brother Ken, and daughter-in-law Lisa. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor Branch. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 19th 1:00 – 3:30 at the Windsor Legion, 35 Empire Lane.
