John David MacDougall, CET Obituary

MacDOUGALL, John David "Dave" Archibald, CET

David passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023 at age 82 at the Victoria General site of the QEII Hospital with his 2 favourite women by his side (his wife and daughter).  Born in Maitland, Hants County, on September 22, 1940, he was the first born son of the late John F. G. MacDougall and Kathleen G. MacDougall (nee Archibald) of South Maitland.

David was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in Halifax, NS and had a successful career working for engineering companies in both Canada and the USA as an electrical technician and/or draftsman.  He joined the apprenticeship program at the Halifax Shipyard in 1960, graduating in 1964 as a marine electrician/technician.  During the final year of his apprenticeship he was transferred to the engineering drafting department and during the next 48 years worked in the engineering drafting field.

In 1962, David took ballroom dancing lessons and enjoyed dancing, especially the jive, and was a big fan of the 50’s and 60’s rock & roll music and 70’s disco music.  He was a car guy and owned several nice cars over the years including a 1991 Corvette ZR-1.  He enjoyed attending car shows in both Canada and the USA.  He joined the Corvette Club of Nova Scotia in 1991 and was a regular member for 14 years.

David was an avid reader and owned a large collection of mystery, suspense and fiction novels.  He also enjoyed walking and hiking and enjoyed excellent health for most of his life.  After retiring in 2012 he did research on his family tree and his ancestors from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.  In 2018 he published his first book entitled “My Family Tree”.  In 2021 he published his second book entitled “My Life Journey”.

Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his sister Bonita in infancy, his brother Frank, and his son, Stephen.  He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, Bedford, NS, their daughter Stacy Maynard (Warren), Oakville, ON, three grandsons, Spencer Jordan, Ottawa, ON, Zachary John and Adam David, Oakville, ON., brothers Keith and Curtis and sister Margo.

At David’s request, there will be no visitation and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.  Donations in David’s memory can be made to your local Souls Harbour Rescue Mission or a charity of your choice.
