It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Gracie on Monday, January 18th, 2021 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, after a brief illness. Born in Alderpoint on July 22nd, 1946 to the late Theodore and Agnes (Laffin) Gracie, he is survived by his wife Barbara and sons Richie (Tammy), Ontario; Billy (April), Calgary; Joey, Calgary; Ronnie, Alderpoint; and daughter Denise Fraser (Troy) of Florence; grandchildren; Briauna, Alex, Nathan, Elizabeth (James), Troy, and Sophia, and great-grandaughter Priscilla. He is also survived by sisters Margarite, Rose (Mevy), Angela (Johnny), Laura (Joey), Carole (Bernie), Judy (Bob), Cathy (George); brothers Hilly, Panky, Benny (Georgina), Teddy (Audrey), Billy (Laurie), and brother-in-law Dewy. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister; Agnes, brothers; Lawrence and Lewis, brother-in-law Joe, sisters-in-law; Theresa, Catherine, Margaret, and Elaine.
Joe spent many years on the water fishing on draggers and on his brother Hilly's boat. He was also a skilled carpenter who built his own home and, used these talents to help out many others. In later years, he was employed in Alberta as a scaffolder until his retirement.
He enjoyed spending time in his garage, having fires, and chatting with his good friend Mike Robbins. He could tackle just about any crossword, loved spending time with his grandchildren, and complaining about current affairs. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has already taken place and as per his request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. May he rest in peace.
