Katherene "Kay" O'Neil Obituary

Katherene (Kay) Ruth O’Neil - Born August 2, 1937 in Liverpool, NS. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary (Tanner) Wagner. She passed away peacefully, on Feb 23, 2023, at Haliburton Place in Windsor, NS. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, John William O’Neil, and brother, Rev. Wilfred Wagner.

Katherene (Kay) is survived by her son, Glenn (Janet) O’Neil; granddaughter Alyson (Evan) O’Neil; daughter Karen (Norman) Knickle; grandson Dr. Corey (Elena) Knickle, great granddaughter Katerina, brothers & sisters, Larry Wagner, Sydney, Joyce Arnold, Sydney, and Pearl MacDougall, Dartmouth.

Kay lived in Sydney, N. S.  She was a hard worker (former RBC banker) who was known for her commitment Christ the King Anglican church in Sydney. Kay was strong willed, determined and often voiced her opinion. She was an adamant house cleaner and an excellent cook (we loved her ribs). Kay was a seeker of knowledge and a life long learner, going back to school late in life and then becoming interested in researching her family genealogy. Her granddaughter Alyson was so proud of how she would learn new ideas about the different cultures and made a sincere effort to understand the LGBT community.

She will be missed and will leave a great void in many hearts.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of East Coast Memorial funeral home.

Donations can be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or Cancer Society.

“You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she lived (on her own terms).”
