The family of Kenneth Norwood Bower of Aylesford, NS, is deeply saddened to announce his passing on August 19, 2023 at 66 years of age.
Ken, or as many called him Kenny, grew up in Kingston, NS with his parents Norwood and Hester Bower. He spent some time out west in his early years, before settling down on the North Mountain and calling The Valley home.
He met the love of his life in 1984, and after their first date in Super Truck – Kenny and Jane never looked back. They built a beautiful life together on Brow Mtn. Road – literally building a homestead out of a potato field in the woods. Moving to the 38 acres he bought when he was in his early 20s - Ken had a dream and he fulfilled that dream with Jane by his side. He was a hard working man who loved his family, was a great friend to many, and was know as a kind, selfless man. All who knew Kenny spoke fondly of him.
Ken was a talented & creative man who could build anything – and he did. He built it all. He travelled as far as Japan for unique construction experiences, as well as having his own construction company for several years - Ken Bower Construction, and his work was well known and respected in the community.
His family and friends will tell you that Ken wasn’t a man who spent much time worrying about “things”. He valued time and memories over stuff. But he did love his motorcycles. He had several over the years – all kept in mint condition. If he wasn’t building something around the yard he was likely in his shop tinkering on the bikes and polishing them up. He and Jane spent many miles together on their Harleys travelling with friends around eastern Canada and the US. Kenny and Jane were active in many motorcycle groups in Nova Scotia and he cherished the many friendships that grew over the years.
His children credit their love & expanded appreciation for music to their dad – he always had the records on the turntable when they got home from school and he had speakers in the yard so he could hear the tunes while he worked. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids – whether it be putting wood in the basement together, roasting hot dogs on the beach in Morden, trudging though the snow on snowshoes to go tobogganing or quad rides through the woods. Ken loved his family and valued every minute he got to spend with them.
Ken will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Jane, and his three children Melody, Patrick, and James (Morgan), as well as his 6 grandchildren Hayden, Ellanor, Michael, Dylan, Bradley and Charlotte. He was predeceased by his mom Hester, dad Norwood and brother Wayne.
There will be no service or memorial, as per Ken’s wishes. The family asks that you do something kind for someone in Ken’s memory, even if it’s an inconvenience. Because that’s what Ken would have done.
