Lillian 'Les' Searle Obituary

On Saturday March 06th 2021, the world lost an incredibly special person.

Lillian Lesley Searle or more affectionately known as Les by her family and friends. Or Nobbie as her husband Tod called her.

Les was born in Aberdeen Scotland on May 17th, 1944. She was the daughter of a War Bride and a Royal Canadian Engineer. Les, her mother and sister Mary made the crossing to Canada in 1946.

Les was a free spirit who encompassed progressive values accepting all who crossed her path with no prejudices. Ahead of her generation.

She had many passions and hobbies. An extremely talented crafter. Constantly challenging herself to make every craft with precision detail. Quilting, crochet, and knitting were some of her favourites and you could often find her at 3am ripping back stitches that were not to her satisfaction. She spent countless hours teaching and coaching anyone who wanted to learn. Especially her eldest granddaughters Angela and Carrie.

Her handiwork can be found in dozens of homes all across Canada. Cherished by many.

She was an amazing cook and an even better baker. To which she and Tod would drive the county to deliver these special treats to loved ones.

Surprisingly, she also garnered a special talent for being the neighbourhood vet! Neighbours often showed up at the house with an abandoned animal or requesting that she go to theirs (even in the middle of the night) to oversee the birth of a litter.

She had an unfaltering determination that life was for the living. And so, she did live each day fully.

She had a knack for blunt honesty, that could leave even the most stoic with a dropped jaw. No one ever had to guess what she was thinking or feeling. She directly told them. And sometimes told them a bit too much!

But those who liked her loved her a lot.

She was predeceased by parents George and Jenny Lynch. Sister Mary. Brothers; Ian and Donald (Duck) Lynch.

She is survived by her devoted Husband Tod Searle of 46 years. Brother Fred, three children Ranald (Sue) Lynch, Michael (Andrea) and Fiona Lynch.

She is also survived by four special grandchildren, Angela, Carrie, Amber and Cameron. Four great grandchildren; Teagan, Zoey, Aiden and Aliyah. Many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Otis.

She used many expressions to describe a current situation.

In this case she would have clucked “That’s the way the ball bounces.”

She will be missed and loved forever by many.

A Celebration of Life will commence when travel is permitted.

Special appreciation to all who helped us manage and fulfil her wish to spend her final days at home with family.

Nurses at 4.1 Infirmary. Paramedics who promptly and compassionately saw to her needs. Lisa Weatherbee RN, Dr. Smith and of course the VON team who insured we had all the tools and knew how to use them.

Heartfelt thanks to Darlene, Kelly and Mike
