It is with broken hearts and the most profound sadness that
the family of Lorraine Johnston announce her peaceful passing in the early
morning of April 10, 2022 at the age of 74 at the South Cumberland Continuing
Care Centre in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. Her loving children were at
her side. Lorraine was born on November 16th, 1947 in Andover, New
Brunswick to John and Sylvina (ne: McQuaid) Bowmaster. She married
Blair Malcolm Johnston on May 16th, 1970 and went on to have 2 children, Rick
(Eric) Blair and Pamela Dawn.
Lorraine was a well-known hairdresser in Hartland, New
Brunswick where she started her career with Grace Palmer and later left to
begin her own successful business, Lorraine’s Beauty Salon. She served the
people of Hartland and surrounding communities for her entire career of 37
years. She had a great love for many activities such as picking an
abundance of fiddleheads in the spring, growing a large and beautiful vegetable
garden in the summers, pickling her gardening efforts in the fall and doing
Christmas crafts to sell in the winter. Lorraine had an amazing
green thumb which was shown with her love and talent for growing houseplants
and beautiful flower gardens – especially lilies of which she had over 40
varieties and colors. Cars would stop at her home in Upper Woodstock
to take pictures of the large patch of beautiful, bright blooms. She
never missed a good bingo game and would often be teased that if there was a
blizzard, she would plow her way to get there.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years,
Blair, her father John; mother Sylvina; brothers Cecil, Charles, Otis, Frances,
Ambrose and Delbert; sisters Louise and Pearl (Haines); her mother and
father-in-law Gertrude and Robert; several in-laws and a few nephews and
nieces.
Lorraine is survived by her son Eric (John) Johnston-Crant,
daughter Pamela (Philip) Goguen, grandsons Patrick (Stephanie) Johnston,
Tristan Johnston and great-grandsons Hayden and Charlie. She is also
survived by brothers Gerome Bowmaster, Eugene Bowmaster, Lewis (Bonnie)
Bowmaster, John (Nancy) Bowmaster Jr., Brian (Angela) Bowmaster; sisters Dolly
Foster, Linda Adams and Florence Greer; several in-laws and many nieces and
nephews.
Internment for both Lorraine and her husband Blair
will take place at a later date in the Cemetery of Our Lady of Mercy Roman
Catholic Church in Aroostook, New Brunswick where they were married in 1970. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to
Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Aroostook, New Brunswick or a charity of choice.
