Lorraine Margaret McCully
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Margaret McCully, our very special grandmother, mother, and friend to many, at Ivany Place on December 7, 2021. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by love from her daughter. Born in Londonderry, NS on June 6, 1942, Lorraine was a daughter of the late Avis and Hedley Canning.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Glenn McCully with whom she shared 55 years of marriage and lots of wonderful times with their children; daughter Janice and her husband Glen MacDonald, son Michael. Lorraine is predeceased by her brother, David Canning.
Lorraine will be remembered by her children, her granddaughters, and by her sister Marilyn MacNeill. She loved her family and friends but most of all, Lorraine’s two greatest treasures were her granddaughters, Shea and Kiley. Grammie was a fixture at school and sporting events, never missing an opportunity to share our successes and cheer us on from near and far. Grammie was an amazing baker and always made sure we had an abundance of sugar cookies decorated for all our classmates on every occasion. Grammies cinnamon buns and rolls were enjoyed by many, and we loved to bake all the goods with her. Grammie’s true specialty was her birthday cakes, and birthdays just haven’t been the same without that special cake. A talented seamstress, she faithfully created all our Halloween costumes and Christmas nightgowns. Grammie had a love for music and was a gifted piano player, playing only by ear and singing along to every tune. She loved to knit, crochet, and dance like nobody was watching. Her laugh was infectious and could fill any room and your heart. We are so lucky to have had countless weekends at Grammies. She was a special woman that will be deeply missed by friend, family, and all who knew her.
Our family is eternally grateful for the special care at Ivany Place over the years. A special thanks to Megan, Elizabeth, Heather, Sarah, and Lynn for the love and care given to Grammie.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be no service held. She will be buried with her husband Glenn in a private ceremony at a later date. Donations in Grammies memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
