Margaret Winnifred MacLean (Peggy) It is with great sadness that on May 14th, Peggy passed away at Northwood Terrace. Peggy was a proud lifelong resident of Bedford, Nova Scotia. She took great joy in telling stories of growing up in Bedford as a little girl. Among her favourites were the story of collecting milk in a pail from a local farm and her memories of the Sisters of Ignatius skating on the meadow in their flowing habits. As a young lady she attended Halifax Business College which led to a job with John Leckie Limited. She loved telling the stories of travelling to school and work on the train during the war years. She met the love of her life, Howie, (Charles Howard MacLean) and went on to raise five children. During those busy years, she was also active in the Bedford United Church Ladies Auxiliary and became Akela to the 1st Bedford Cub Pack. Later in life she took great joy in her travels to the great gardens and homes of Europe with a group of local lady friends.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband Howard and her son Christopher. She is survived by her sister, Rita Lawerence, daughter Charlotte (Robert), David (Nancy), John (Dale), and Sandy (Kimberly). Peggy is also survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew Foster, Kimberly Foster, Sean (Linda) MacLean, Andrew MacLean, Gillian (Shawn) Carver, Scott (Lauren) MacLean, Nicholas MacLean and six great grandchildren, Sylina Foster-Wright, Max and Jacob MacLean, Rylynn, Zachery, Cameron Carver. Peggy had a special relationship with her niece Tina who always took joy in spending time with her Aunt Winnie.
A special thanks to the many staff members at Parkland Clayton Park and Northwood who made our mother’s later years so happy and comfortable. There will be a family gathering post-Covid 19 but in the meantime, please raise a cup of tea (her answer to a long healthy life) and remember Peggy.
