THOMPSON, Richard Michael - Bridgetown, Nove Scotia, 83 years old ~
Itis with great sadness that we announce the death of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard (Rick) Thompson on January 12, 2022. He was born August 18, 1938 in Montreal, Quebec to parents Gwendolyn (Bignell) and Fred Thompson. He met the love of his life, Juanita Jess, when his mother and stepfather moved to Halifax when he was a teenager. He liked to laugh about how they met when they both had their pajamas on. Rick and Juanita were together for 63 years, married for 61 years. Together they had three children he was very proud of: Bruce (Gail) Spaniards’ Bay, NL; Brenda (Kent Folks) Perotte, NS; and Donald (Catherine) Dartmouth, NS. Rick had several grandchildren, Megan (Paul McDougall), Laura Careen (Gavin), Michael Nightingale, Christopher, Gwynneth and Noah; several nieces and nephews. He had two great-grandsons, Trevor and Izaac Careen in Newfoundland. He is survived by his wife Juanita of Bridgetown and brother Tim Thompson of Dartmouth. Rick worked for many years with mechanical and hydraulic equipment and was known as an expert in his field. He worked with Ferry Aviation and the Halifax Dockyard before opening up his own successful business, Consolidated Fluid Power, in his 40s. Rick and Juanita moved to the Annapolis Valley upon retirement and enjoyed the beauty of the area. Rick is predeceased by his parents and his stepfather, Watson Ascah; his sisters Barbra and Diane (in childhood); and his sister in law Marie Thompson. His dog, Jakey and cat, Irie, will miss cuddling with him. We shall all miss him very much. Special thank you to the nursing staff at the Annapolis Community Health Centre for their compassionate care of Rick in his last weeks. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
