Sarah Sanford Obituary

Sarah Jane (Sadie) Sanford, age 89 of Cheverie passed away peacefully at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor on July 20, 2020.
Born in Goshen (Cambridge), Hants County on March 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Evelyn (Smith) Laffin.
Sadie was well loved in her community. Over the years, she and her husband, Avon owned and operated multiple business ventures. She also worked for Dr. Charles Hines and Statistics Canada until her retirement.
An ambitious planner, she volunteered her time for community events, such as Cheverie Gala Day. She always liked to wear the “white hat” and the family worked beside her to carry out her plans.
Sadie was also a lifetime member of the Walton Shore Fire Department Auxiliary.
Sadie devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother and Nanny. She always supplied love and support to her family in all their endeavours.
We remember the Christmas, Dad’s gift to Mom was a trip to Bermuda with friends. This was the beginning of her love of travelling to the sunny south. She enjoyed many trips to Bermuda, Bahamas and Florida over the years.  For her 80th birthday, she travelled to Vegas on a girls’ trip with her daughters and granddaughters. What a trip! She loved the glamour and the lights and above all the slots.
She enjoyed listening to country music and as a steadfast fan of the Blue Jays, she was there for the team; Day or Night, Win or Lose.
Her delicious loaves may have earned her the honorary title of ‘Banana Bread Queen’. There was nothing she loved more than sharing a good cup of tea and a laugh with family and friends or a special moment with her faithful furry companion “Sophie”.
She is survived by her children; David (Edie), Alice (Calder) Ross, Cindy (Bill) LaPierre, Joanne (Kevin) Beck, Loran “Walter”, Blake (Trina). She was a proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Sonya, Jeff, Gayla, Andrew, Amanda, Melissa, Jonathan, Aaron, Jana, Laura, Zach, Erica, Emelia, Brent and 18 great grandchildren.
Sadie is also survived by her loving brother, Lewis Laffin (Donna) and sister in law, Doris Sanford.
She was predeceased by her husband, Avon; daughter Gayla (in infancy); granddaughter, Jennifer (in infancy); brother, Hudson (in infancy); sister, Celia Macumber; her partner of 20 years, Fred Pineo; companion and friend, Frank Sanford.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on a later date.
Memorial donation can be made to Grace United Church Cemetery Fund, Walton; C/O Lorna Burbidge, PO Box 54, Walton, NS B0N2R0 or Walton Shore Volunteer Fire Department; C/O Wanda Lake, 4881 Walton Woods Road, Walton, NS B0N2R0
The family would like to thank the Staff at Dykeland Lodge for the compassionate care which they have given our mother during her short time with them.

"I said... Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest"
